520 contestants from across the country, performing in a total of 24 vocational occupations, are participating in the 10th Vietnamese National Skills Competition. The skills competition takes place in Hanoi and Ha Nam from May 15 to 20, 2018. Eight participants are from the Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI) and LILAMA 2 International Technical College (LILAMA 2). These TVET institutes are supported by the Vietnamese-German Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam”.
The contestants from VCMI and LILAMA 2 are competing in seven occupations including Electrical Installations, Mechanical Engineering-CAD, Graphic Design, Web Design, Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics and Welding Technology. In the competition, the VCMI and LILAMA 2 trainees are showcasing their occupational skills, competence and attitude, including occupational health and safety, that they have been practicing at their TVET institutes. There, the trainees have profited from practice and demand-oriented training focusing on competency development. The training has been delivered by highly qualified teaching staff, who have received further training provided by the Vietnamese-German Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam”. To participate in the national skills competition the contestants qualified via provincial competitions.
The National Skills Competition is a biennial competition to honour skilled workers and to present Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to a broader public. This year, the best contestants will represent Viet Nam at the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition in Thailand in August, and at the 45th World Skills Competition in Russia next year (2019).
