Vietnamese-German Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam

“Vocational institutes, high schools and business sector are the triangle in the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Dong Nai province!” This statement was made by Mr. Huynh Van Tinh, Director of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affrairs (DoLISA), within the “1st Career Guidance Festival” on 29 October at the Sonadezi Technology and Administration College. More than 1,200 9-grade and 12-grade pupils from 13 secondary and high schools learned more about opportunities for TVET as a career option.
The event was aiming to promote the training capacity of TVET institutes in Dong Nai and raise a widely and impactful awareness of community, teachers and pupils of secondary and high schools towards vocational training opportunities.
As a festival for young people, the most exciting experience for the attendees was to take part in practical activities and exercises in the booths of 13 participating vocational institutes. 200 young trainees of the TVET institutes shared their experiences about the specific occupation that they are being trained and why they choose TVET as their career.
Students of LILAMA 2 International Technology College (LILAMA 2) informed in their booth about Cooperative Training in the pilot occupation Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics, Construction Mechanics and Metal Cutting – CNC.
As always, entertainment did not fall short either: The guests enjoyed music performances and a tombola.
“How to significantly improve the quality of career guidance in the secondary and high schools?”;
“How to strengthen the cooperation between vocational institutes and high schools to attract more young people to choose TVET as a career option?”;
“What is the role of the business sector to support vocational training and career guidance to be more practical and demand-driven?”
Those topics had been discussed during the panels with representatives from DoLISA, DoET, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), Schaeffler Vietnam Co., Ltd, the Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam and successful TVET graduates.
In addition, a mini-seminar on Career Guidance and Cooperative Training has provided a forum for information exchange to enhance the net-working amongst TVET institutes and strengthen the cooperation between TVET institutes with the secondary, high schools and business sector.
The successful format of LILAMA “Open Day” had been used as the platform to conduct the “1st Career Guidance Festival” within the cooperation of DoLISA, DoET, VCCI and GIZ.
