Further Training Course for Future Vietnamese Examiners held at LILAMA 2

Developing occupational standards and training programmes for Construction Mechanics, Industrial Electronics, Metal Cutting-CNC and Mechatronics and Sewage Engineering jointly with the business sector is only the first step to achieve a demand-oriented training at LILAMA 2 International Technology College (LILAMA 2), Vocational College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI) and Ho Chi Minh College of Technology II (HVCT). The involvement of the business sector in examination ensures the acceptance of the trainees’ competencies by future employers.

In order to build up a pool of trained examiners at LILAMA 2, VCMI and HVCT, a Training Course for Examiners with a well-experienced German expert from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Upper Bavaria/Munich, took place for the second time at LILAMA 2 from 6 to 9 March 2018. A total of 23 teaching staff and 2 experienced In-Company Trainers from partner companies took part in the training course.

The future examiners gained an overview of fundamental preparatory steps and the use of pre-selected instruments for final examinations. They acquired specific knowledge about the principles of examinations and their preparation in Germany: The stance of examinations in the training process, examination boards, examination structure and preparation, examination procedures and implementation, the procedure and methods of the written and practical examinations, and the procedure and method of oral examinations. One of the highlights for the participants was the simulation of situational interview, which are part of the practical examination. The participants formed four groups in which one participant simulated to be a trainee and two participants simulated to be examiners. The simulation was filmed and reviewed together. The results were discussed in order to sensitise the future examiners how to mark trainee answers and how the procedure works.

After completion of the training course, the participants know the set-up and structure of the final examination and how to conduct examinations and how to mark examinations. Additionally, they are familiar with the interplay of the TVET institute and participating companies in examinations following Cooperative Training approaches. Through the joint training course the cooperation between experienced technicians from the partner companies and the TVET institutes’ teaching staff is further strengthened.

The training was held within the fields of activity “Support of Centres of Excellence (CoEs)” and “TVET for Skilled Workers in the Wastewater Sector” as parts of the Vietnamese-German Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam. The programme is implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
