Training for WorldSkills – Water Technology

From April 23, 2019 to May 3, 2019, Nguyen Thai Phuong, alumnus of “Sewage Engineering” and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh Nam, Head of Department for Labour Protection and Environment – Ho Chi Minh Vocational College of Technology (HVCT) joined the “Water Technology” training camp in Stuttgart, Germany. This is a special training camp to prepare Thai Phuong for the WorldSkills Competition which will take place in Russia this August.

For nearly 2 weeks, Nguyen Thai Phuong has been thoroughly trained by German experts of the Association of Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) and the German Technical Delegate in the WorldSkills’ discipline Water Technology. He also had the opportunity to visit and practice vocational skills at the Stuttgart’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. These two weeks are an extremely valuable time, not only for Phuong to be trained and improve his own knowledge, but also an opportunity for him to interact and compete against other competitors from countries around the world.

Phuong is the only representative of the HVCT and also the only representative of Vietnam to participate in the WorldSkills Competition in the field of “Water Technology”.

After two weeks of training camp in Germany, Thai Phuong said: “A visit to Stuttgart Wastewater Treatment Plant is one of the things that I am most impressed and excited during the two-week training period. In Germany, I had the opportunity to directly visit the advanced sewerage and wastewater treatment system in the world and practice under the thorough guidance of technical experts. This is an interesting part of the training programme, two weeks training helped me improve many skills. This is not only a chance for me to practice on modern technology equipment that will be applied at the WorldSkills Competition. The training also helped me boost my confidence and test my skills against the competition pressure in the international arena. “

The training is held within  the Vietnamese-German Programme “Reform of TVET in Viet Nam”. The programme is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA).
