From the 13th to the 22nd of July 2015, the activity field 3 “Vocational training for Skilled Workers in the Wastewater Sector” under the Programme Reform of TVET in Viet Nam (GIZ) hosted the 5th training with the participation of 25 teachers and in-company-trainers.
The overall goal of this training was to strengthen the technical and pedagogical capacity of 25 teachers and in-company-trainers to enable them to provide lectures and guidance for the vocational training programme for Sewage Engineering Technicians based on German standards.
The course took place at two venues. The session about operating the waste collection and sewerage system was organized at Ho Chi Minh Vocational College of Technology (HVTC), and the Biological Wastewater Treatment session was carried out at Thu Dau Mot Wastewater Treatment Plant (Binh Duong province).
In the Sewerage System Operation session, the teachers’ and in-company-trainers’ knowledge on the following topics was enhanced:
– Types of wastewater and their elements
– Types of sewerage systems, sewers and materials
– Inspecting situations and errors in channels
– Maintenance and reparation of sewers and manholes
In the lecture on Restoration and Renewal videos and pictures from Germany were shown which helped the participants to familiarise themselves with international technical standards and to expand their vision to make suitable solutions at their workplace.
The second session was on Biological Wastewater Treatment. With the support of a German lecturer, the participants learned more about carbon and nitrogen compound biodegradation in wastewater treatment plants. They also learned the operating process at a wastewater treatment plant.
On the last day, the participants took a German-standards-based test to identify their practical capacity, which will be the basis for the next training that will be tentatively organized in November 2015.
